Idle Chatter is a throwback to the end of my adolescence when I was an unlikely participant in sophisticated, purposeful conversations with two people I idolized. I would try to keep up and interject with what I thought were deep and meaningful thoughts but I was often dismissed and told “that is idle chatter, find some substance.” While I still remain blissfully naive at times, I like to think that I have found some of that substance with a bit more to contribute these days.

Grapes were harvested over a period of a month from mid-September to mid-October for optimal ripeness according to variety and elevation.  The grapes were then destemmed into tank for daily pumpovers and an 18 day maceration period.

Wild yeast primary fermentation in tank (Syrah & Viognier co-fermented) followed by racking in to a combination of foudre, neutral barrique and tank for malolactic and ageing for 10 months.

Vineyards are all located in Mendocino County - a mix of ancient alluvial soils and volcanic materials at elevations ranging from 700- 1200 feet.

McDowell Valley AVA, known for thriving Rhone varieties, is the source for much of the blend, including spectacular old vine Syrah (95 years).  This area is sloped bench land at elevations as high as 1,000 feet above sea level overlooking the Russian River to the west.

Vineyards are also located in  Yorkville Highlands AVA - a wild, on-the- fringe area where yields are low, elevations are high, diurnal shifts are extreme.

Handpicked grapes were brought in to the winery and soaked on the skins for 3 hours before the Rosé juice was drawn off (saignée method).

The juice was then fermented in a combination of stainless steel tank and neutral French oak barrels (about 50/50) using native and inoculated yeasts.

Citrus zest, watermelon and bright red berry flavors characterize this fresh, lifted, zippy Rosé.

Grapes are hand harvested from select vineyards across the cool Sonoma Coast AVA including Petaluma Gap, Freestone, and Green Valley.

Farming is across the board sustainable and meticulous - select parcels are farmed organically.

The grapes were handpicked

when they achieved optimal ripeness (between 21-23 Brix) and expression. Harvest occurred over a span of three weeks beginning on September 22nd.
